It’s your birth story, and it matters.

to remember, to process, to heal, to celebrate

Some day in the future, your child will look at you and say, “Tell me about when I was born.”

The birth of your child is one of the most profound experiences you will ever have… and, like all memories, it will fade.

Your birth story is more than just an account of what happened, it holds all of the emotions you felt and the challenges you overcame so whether your birth went exactly as planned, or was dramatically different, telling this story is an opportunity for you to process what happened and to celebrate the amazing thing you have just done.

When you tell me your birth story, I will listen with compassion and without judgement, and then I will turn your words into a beautifully written and formatted PDF that honors your unique birth journey.

COST: $300
($200 for my birth doula clients)

  • 1 We begin with a guided reflection form with questions to help you think about your upcoming birth.
  • 2 We talk before your baby is born, and shortly after when you share your birth story with me. (I record our conversations so I don't miss a single detail!)
  • 3 Using your words, I write your story, you review it and make any changes you wish, and I return it to you as a beautiful print-quality PDF.

Birth Doula Services

Giving birth is one of the most challenging and powerful things you will ever do. My goal is to support you on your unique journey as a compassionate, knowledgeable and non-judgmental companion by your side.

Our initial meeting is free to make sure we’re a good fit for each other. After that, we will meet three times to talk about your birth preferences and comfort measures you can take before and during labor, and to go over what to expect during the first few months with your baby. If I am working with a partner, you will get to know both of us during these visits.  Throughout this time, I am available by phone or email whenever you need to reach out.

I am on call for you 24/7 from Week 37 until you deliver your baby. After early labor is well established, I will join you either in your home or at your chosen birthplace. I will be by your side throughout your labor, no matter how long it takes. After your baby is born, I will stay for a few hours to help make sure that you’re comfortable and breastfeeding or chest feeding is well established. After, I will slip out and let you enjoy your beautiful newborn.

I will visit you on the first day following your birth, and then come to your home to do two more postpartum visits to make sure you are getting settled and to provide support with newborn care either directly or by recommending local resources. We can talk about your birth story and any concerns you have, or I can just hold your baby while you take a shower or a nap. I am also available to answer questions by phone or email for the first month after your baby is born.

Curious? Here's how to take the next step.

I offer my services on a sliding scale from $750-$1000. This means you choose your cost based on your family income. I trust you to choose a price that both respects your family situation, and the care I provide.

About Me

I’m a writer, a teacher and a mother. My path to doula care and birth story support has been born of these three identities. Over my 20 years of writing plays, I have learned that to be a good listener, you have to hear not just the words being said, but what is being said under them.

We all have a story to tell. Something incredibly powerful happens when you tell your story – it is validating, empowering, and it is an essential part of being able to process a major change in your life, like the birth of a child.

Of course, for a story to be told, there has to be a listener, which is where I come in. I believe in the power of empathy. Whether I am present at your birth, or helping to capture your unique birth story, my role is to listen, give space, and guide.

- Jennifer Fawcett

"What if instead of talking about birth as natural or unmedicated, surgical or vaginal, we talked about the transformation experienced by those who live it? What if instead of asking a new parent if they gave birth naturally or with drugs, we asked how birth transformed them?"
